Keeping it Coastal

Coast into Grand haven for the 101st Coast Guard Festival

For ten days each summer, the lakeside town of Grand Haven, Michigan, transforms into a vibrant celebration of service, community, and maritime tradition during the Coast Guard Festival.

Mark your calendars for 2025, when this beloved tradition returns to Grand Haven from July 25 to August 3, offering something for everyone.

Designated “Coast Guard City, USA,” Grand Haven has hosted the festival for over a century, honoring the brave men and women who protect our shores. The festival kicks off with a stunning parade of ships, after which visitors can tour active Coast Guard cutters docked along the waterfront. It’s a rare chance to explore these remarkable vessels up close while meeting the crews who sail them.

Downtown Grand Haven buzzes with excitement throughout the week. Stroll through the street fair, where local artisans, food vendors, and live performers line the streets. Don’t miss the carnival rides and games, which are sure to entertain kids and kids-at-heart. For music lovers, the waterfront stage hosts nightly concerts ranging from local talent to nationally renowned acts.

One of the festival’s highlights is the Coast Guard Memorial Service, a moving tribute held at Escanaba Park to honor those who have lost their lives in service. This moment of reflection underscores the deep connection between Grand Haven and the United States Coast Guard.

As the festival nears its end, the Grand Parade winds through the city, filling the streets with vibrant floats, marching bands, and plenty of red, white, and blue. Stick around for the grand finale—a breathtaking fireworks display and drone show that lights up the night sky and closes the festival on a high note.
